The cast of “Sing” sang with Paul McCartney and Jimmy Fallon, and it was electric

Let’s just put this out there — “Wonderful Christmastime” is a bit stale. That’s why it’s great that McCartney reached out for a little help (from his friends!) to create a new version. Last night, the cast of Sing covered “Wonderful Christmastime” with Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, and McCartney himself, and it sounded so much better.

The song, which you’ve likely heard in every department store on an annual basis sometime in-between November and the end of December, originally came out in 1979. The original version was recorded by McCartney alone, although the official music video features the band Wings. It’s morphed into a classic, and has had a few notable covers in the last few decades.

But, this cover might just be the most monumental.

The cast of Sing is pretty incredible, and it was a great idea to have them on board. Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Tori Kelly, and Scarlett Johansson all lent their vocals for this fantastic a cappella version, and since their upcoming animated movie is all about a singing competition, it definitely makes a lot of sense.

MacFarlane, a notable singer when not working behind the scenes on his multiple animated series, is also no stranger to Christmas music. In fact, he just sang a gorgeous rendition of “The Christmas Song” on The Late Late Show just the other night.

Just like most of the other covers that Fallon and his crew pull off, we can honestly listen to The Tonight Show version of this Christmas classic on loop.
