The actress who plays Lucy on “Twin Peaks” says you should NEVER use this word to describe her character

Lucy Moran is no ditz. Twin Peaks‘ quirky receptionist Lucy, played by veteran actress Kimmy Robertson, may come across as a little dingy to viewers of the cult classic television series, but according to Robertson, they’ve got it all wrong.

Recently, Robertson sat down to answer a few questions about her character’s evolution over the 25-year gap between the series’ original airing and the new Showtime reboot. When asked whether she wished Lucy had moved “beyond the ‘ditzy receptionist’ role,” Robertston did not hesitate to set the record straight.

“First of all, I don’t think…I mean, people may call her ditzy because of her thing with the cell phone and stuff. It’s called ditzy, but I think that she’s really on the ball with the sheriff,” Robertson told Vulture.

And Robertson has evidence. According to the actress, director and series co-creator David Lynch cleared up any confusion during filming the show’s first season, describing Lucy as “absolutely not ditzy.”

And while she admits Lucy may be clueless when it comes to the opposite sex — we STILL don’t know who’s the biological father of Wally Brando! — Robertson suspects Lucy knows what’s up, calling Lucy a person “who does things correctly.”

"She's one of those that takes potato salad or a jello mold to the PTA," said Roberston.

So, why does the “ditz” label continue to stick?

Robertson can’t quite put her finger on it, but figures it might have something to do with Lynch’s unusual and indefinable character composition. She said, “It’s just a label that I think people used for ‘different,’ you know? I think that everybody in Twin Peaks is different.”

But according to Robertson, that doesn’t mean Lynch’s characters are unrelatable. In fact, audiences may identify with them more because of their eccentricities. “They’re the way the world really is, and most of them want to keep up with the Joneses because they’re afraid to be themselves,” Robertson revealed.

That’s at least one Twin Peaks mystery solved!
