We finally know why *NSYNC has that star
Like every human alive during the ’90s and early 2000s, *NSYNC holds a special, special place in my heart. Personally, I was more of a Spice Girls lady myself, but sprawling on my next door neighbor’s floor — surrounded by 20 posters of Lance Bass’ face — is still a nice memory. And like most people who listened to or have listen to or even know of *NSYNC, I’ve always been curious about that star in the band’s name. What is it? What does it stand for? Why is there?! And now we have answer. Turns out, Uri Geller is responsible for that star in *NSYNC.
Yep, Uri Geller. You know, that guy who really famously bends spoons. With his mind. Okay, you know who he is, even if you don’t know. In a recent interview with Huffington Post, *NSYNC member Joey Fatone credited the Israeli mentalist for the group’s idiosyncratic spelling. Here’s the story:
While still in the process of establishing themselves as one the decade’s most beloved boy bands, Joey Fatone, Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass saw Geller perform in the U.K. After the show, Geller drew a star for them and promised that if they included it in their name, their album would shoot to the top of the billboards. You know, like a shooting star? I’m sure it was a very nice moment.
HuffPo reached out to Geller to confirm because, like, yeah, it’s a super weird story, and apparently, it’s true! “I think drawing and writing down their name and creating that star gave them that subliminal push to go for it,” he explained.
So if I put the taco emoji in front of my name, do you guys think I’ll be guaranteed a lifetime of snacks or…
