Give thanks in sweet style with these DIY cupcake decorations
Thanksgiving is almost here, and I for one cannot wait! What could be better than a day filled with parades and pie? At my house, though, those pies have some company: homemade cupcakes. This year, I’m taking my signature dessert one step further with some sweet holiday decorations spelling out “THANKS!”.
These cute little toppers are perfectly sized for cupcakes, but you could easily string them into a mini pennant garland for a traditional cake (or pie!). And the fun doesn’t have to be limited to Thanksgiving—try making decorations that spell out your bestie’s name on her birthday, snowflake pennants for Christmas or sparkly toppers for New Year’s Eve!
Materials:
- Paper in two patterns
- Thin cardboard or tagboard
- Toothpicks
- Craft glue
- Scissors
- Ballpoint pen
- Measuring tape
- Tape
Craft away:
Draw a 2-inch by 2-inch square onto one of the sheets of paper. Trim off two of the corners to make a pennant shape. Cut out the shape and trace it six more times onto the paper, and cut out all of the shapes.
Write “THANKS!” on the other sheet of paper in block letters, 1 1/2 inches tall. Cut out the letters.
Glue the pennants onto the cardboard, and glue the letters on top of the pennants. Let dry completely.
Cut out the cardboard-backed pennants. Tape a toothpick to the back of each one.
Stick the pennants into cupcakes to make a cute holiday display!
