Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir just broke a world record…and yes, we’re still obsessed with their “platonic” love
They’re not together romantically, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have chemistry. So much chemistry, that they ended up breaking a pretty cool record. Canadian skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have been skating partners for around 20 years, and are already three-time world champions. And they managed to score big with their short dance routine Monday, February 19th, in PyeongChang.
The duo skated to a medley of “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Hotel California,” and “Oye Como Va,” which earned them a world record of 83.67 points (and yes, they finished first).
Virtue and Moir’s chemistry may come from the fact that they’ve been skating together since they were both in the single-digits. According to Time, Moir’s aunt was a skating coach who worked with both of them and wanted to see how they’d work together as a team — so, we can give her major kudos for what came next. The pair reportedly dated when they were kids, but called it quits after a few months. Luckily, they still managed to work together just fine. Virtue is currently 28, and Moir is 30.
The pair won a gold medal at the Olympics in Vancouver back in 2010 and didn’t stop there. They appeared in Sochi four years later, where they earned themselves a silver.
One lucky fan at the 2018 Winter Olympics managed to get footage of their practice performance, uploaded under the name of Lingyin. Even behind the scenes, these two are on fire.

Virtue and Moir’s competitors from France, Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, scored the second highest routine on Monday.
Perhaps the best part about Virtue and Moir breaking the record for their ice dance short dance? They actually beat their own score. Their previous record stood at 82.68, making the win even more special.
