Tegan and Sara turn “Miami Vice” into a puppet show with their latest video

We never thought we’d see the day when someone re-created Miami Vice but with puppets and toys, but Tegan and Sara’ “Dying To Know” video has done just that.

After releasing their eighth album this year, Love You to Death, Canadian twin sisters, Sara and Tegan Quin (aka Tegan and Sara), decided to embark on an ambitious undertaking to release a video for each of the album’s songs. So far, the sisters have paid tribute to queer artists with “Faint of Heart,” explored themes of mental illness, anxiety, and depression, played around with sexually suggestive motifs, and even paid homage to dog grooming with “100x.”

Now the duo’s latest video is a Miami Vice inspired puppet extravaganza and we can’t get enough of it.

Directed by Nathan Boey, Tegan told Billboard, who premiered the clip, that she was, in fact, inspired after watching a compilation TV show that contained a scene from Miami Vice. In the show, she says, they were talking specifically about an episode that used the entirety of Phil Collins’ “In The Air” like it was a music video.

"I remember thinking how cool it would be to have Sara and I remake the famous scene," Tegan said. "Sadly, neither of us can drive, nor did we have the time or funds to reshoot that famous scene in Miami. Instead we tapped director Nathan Boey in Vancouver to reshoot it using puppets! I think it might even be better with us as puppets than if we had been in it ourselves."

The dolls in the video were custom made for  the occasion by Eleni Creative, an Atlanta, GA, based artist who makes the cutest toys, dolls, and artwork.

"[Tegan and Sara] shared with me their childhood passion for Miami Vice and the rest sort of wrote itself!" director Nathan Boey said about the clip. "Eleni Creative's dolls were beautifully custom-built, and the idea of them ripping around the city in a mini Lamborghini had me giggling throughout production."

Don’t you just love how cute this is? We <3 everything about it and Eleni Creative’s dolls are just way too perfect.

Tegan and Sara’s Love You to Death is available now.
