Yesterday was Mother’s Day, and if you were anywhere on social media, your feed was filled with users posting happy mom tributes and pictures on Instagram and Facebook. But for some people, Mother’s Day isn’t as much a celebration, as it is a reminder that their moms are no longer around. It’s a challenging time, and in a moving post, Tumblr user areweintheclearyets shared just what it felt like to be motherless on a holiday dedicated to moms. In a touching note to Taylor Swift, whose music helped her grieve the loss of her mother, she wrote the following:

If Kaileen were writing to anyone else, her note might have gone unanswered—but this is T-Swift we’re talking about. She is so there for her fans—through breakups, joyful moments, and even grief. Taylor, who’s sadly dealing with her own mother’s illness, not only responded to the post, she did so in the kindest, most caring way:

It’s no secret that Taylor likes to hang with her fans on Tumblr, and she often jokes around with folks through videos and reblogs, but it’s good to know that she’s also there in times of sadness. And so are we! Mother’s Day may be over, but it’s never too late to send good vibes and notes of compassion to those who need it most.
