Love this: The ladies of Fifth Harmony are 100% committed to feminism
I always love when celebrities are proud about being feminists. After all, what else could be cooler than standing up for equal rights?
The most recent awesome women to stand up for feminism are the fierce ladies of Fifth Harmony. You might know them as the band that was formed on X Factor USA, or for their insanely catchy song, “Sledgehammer.” (Seriously, it’s been stuck in my head for days.)
Band member Lauren Jauregui explained to the Huffington Post that the group is promoting feminism “100 percent,” “because it’s by definition the political and economic and social equality of the sexes,” a declaration that makes us love them 100 percent more.
Their amazing song “Bo$$” definitely shows off their feminist attitude, with inspirational phrases like “Think like a boss,” “Dreams don’t work unless you do,” and “Be yourself and be that.” The song decries catcalling and instead says that men better show them some respect, because they’re confident and independent — and I’m all for that.
Jagueri wants to inspire more women to understand that “being powerful and being strong and being able to be successful” is more important than competition.
“A huge part of [feminism], I think, is the coming together of women,” Jauregui continued. “[It’s] supporting each other and not breaking each other down, and kind of sending out that message and making sure women know that doing this together is going to be so much more effective than trying to tear each other down.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
