Ed Sheeran is gearing up for a very scary surgery in January
Start gathering up those Get Well cards, because Ed Sheeran is going to need them very soon. At the beginning of next year, he’s going under the knife and that means he’s going to be MIA for a while. Nothing about his beautiful ginger appearance is changing, and all his tattoos are going to be FINE. But, some world class doctors need to fix his ear.
Sheeran, being the rock star that he is, managed to burst the ear drum in one of his ears. This is a common medical condition among musicians, who rock out so hard the vibrations of the music literally shatter the inner eardrum. And we know how Sheeran likes to rock out!
Except that Sheeran didn’t shatter his ear drum playing music so loud. He shattered it when he jumped off a yacht, and hit the water funny.
“I have to have an operation in January on my ear because I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it,” he explained in an interview with Australia’s Nova radio. “I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum.”
For starters, that sounds absolutely painful. It was even more painful when Sheeran actually learned he had shattered it. He didn’t realize anything was wrong for a while, until he climbed back into the water some time later.
“It’s the most painful thing having a hole in your eardrum and having water go in.” Honestly, I can only imagine what that feels like, and I don’t want to think about it.
The surgery Sheeran needs is routine, so there’s no need to worry. But, following the surgery to repair it, he won’t be able to fly for a little bit (because of the whole air pressure changing and your ears popping thing), which means he can’t travel, which means he can’t tour. Sheeran is at least looking on the bright side of things, and sees the upcoming recovery period as a time to “stay at home” to rest and hang out. After the whirlwind year he’s had, between sold-out crowds, and TV, and lion tattoos, he’s earned a little breather.
