The 2015 .GIFYS nominees are actually the best
The glitz and glamor of awards season is almost over, but there’s one more big show to go — the 2015 .GIFYS.
If the name doesn’t give it away, the .GIFYS celebrate excellence in the field of Internet .GIFs. Though only in its second year, the .GIFYS have a deep and diverse lineup, from the “DEAL WITH IT” leaping baby goat to a bouncing Ron Swanson head gobbling up infinite bacon. Curated by a group of panelists from .GIF-heavy sites like Mashable, Buzzfeed, and Reddit (and overseen by the esteemed Lil Bub), the nominated .GIFs are split into different categories like “Animals,” “Cats” (because they really do need their own category), “Can’t Look Away,” “Throwback,” and the all-encompassing “Weird.”
Even weirder than the .GIF of a neon blue hand reaching out of a computer to feed a woman a sandwich is the fact that the .GIFYS were actually created by an ad agency. Crispin Porter + Bogusky, a Los Angeles-based agency, created the awards last year; this year, they’ve partnered with .gif search portal Giphy to “host” the virtual event.
