This teen used a genius trick to make her $50 prom dress look like it cost $5,000

It’s prom season! Which means one thing for many teens: The prom dress (okay, maybe not just the prom dress…but it’s still a major part of the fun). And teen Nazmayde Castillo has caused quite the stir with her prom-dress ingenuity.  She took an ordinary and affordable dress and made it super chic and unique with one simple alteration.

Her boyfriend, MJ Johnson, found the initial dress on Fashion Nova, and Nazmayde bought it for $50. After it arrived, she decided to glam it up by adding blue flowers at the hem, ultimately making the mini-dress floor length (and bonus, the flowers perfectly matched MJ’s blue suit). As MJ noted on Instagram, “We both creative as hell.”

Here’s a few prom photos of the pair. Warning: Prepare to get MAJOR DIY style inspo.

"She had the idea to add flowers at the bottom ... that’s it," he wrote. "A $50 dress is all flowers was all it took."

In an interview with Teen Vogue, MJ said that the skirt took two days, mostly because they needed to buy more flowers. A touch of glitter also helped make the skirt pop.

A quick look at MJ’s Instagram feed confirms he is, in fact, “hella creative.” Here’s one of his “looks” from the 2018 Met Gala.

LOL.

We have a feeling this isn’t the last we’ve heard of these two. They’ve got major talent, and they haven’t even graduated from high school yet.
