Incredible teacher wins game show, melts hearts by using the money to buy new shoes her students need

Many teachers would do anything to help their students — it’s part of what makes them such incredible forces for good in the lives of those they teach! But one teacher at Yuille Park Community College in Australia just went above and beyond by using winnings from a game show to buy ever student at her school shoes.

Yuille Park is a small P-8 school (think grade and middle school) in the Australian state of Victoria. The area has some seriously harsh winters, and teacher Bri Dredge was worried that too many students didn’t have proper shoes for the weather. Small concerns like that can have a huge impact on a student’s ability to learn — and Bri decided to do something about it.

She went on Australia’s Millionaire Hot Seat, a quiz show much like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. The teacher flexed that trivial knowledge, and knocked the game out of the ballpark, winning $20,000. She told local AAPthat she wanted to go on the show to encourage her students to “get out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves.”

But she also taught them an important lesson in selflessness. She turned right around and used all her winnings to buy the students shoes, making their trek to school a lot easier come winter. And the students are nothing short of grateful.

“I walked into school and every student in the whole school has given me a hug and said thank you,” Bri shared. “The look on their faces was worth all the money that I won.”

We’re blown away by how thoughtful and kind Bri is, and we’re glad her students have someone like her looking out for them!
