Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” video has this surprise cameo, and it was foreshadowed way back at the Met Gala

This morning, June 17th, Taylor Swift dropped the video for her latest single, “You Need to Calm Down,” and it’s loaded with celebrity cameos, including many members and allies of the LGTBQ community. However, the cameo everyone’s talking about this Monday morning is Katy Perry. She and Swift finally squashed their beef last week, but the origins of Perry’s appearance in “You Need to Calm Down” could potentially be traced all the way back to the Met Gala in early May.

In the video, Perry and Swift reunite amid a food fight—Swift is dressed as a box of French fries and Perry dons a hamburger costume. They slow dance together as chaos ensues around them, ultimately embracing to form a “happy meal,” as Swift wrote on Instagram. Perry shared the same photo and captioned it, “This meal is BEEF-free.”

It looks like the long-standing feud is officially, *officially* over.

Cute, clever, and kitschy, right? Well, those who tuned into the Met Gala on May 6th might be experiencing some déjà vu. Perry wore that exact same Moschino hamburger dress to the gala, which was themed “Camp.”

So we have to wonder: Was this entire outfit was an Easter egg all along? Was Perry foreshadowing her reunion with Swift a full month and a half before that “peace at last” cookie platter appeared on Instagram and Twitter?

Knowing how much our girl Swift loves a good Easter egg, all signs point to yes.

Some fans caught wind of Swift and Perry’s plan before the “You Need To Calm Down” video dropped. A rumor began spreading around social media that Perry and Swift were going to share a kiss in their fast food costumes, but Swift firmly put that rumor to rest in the most eloquent way possible.

"Guys. That is ABSOLUTELY false. To be an ally is to understand the difference between advocating and baiting," Swift wrote to a fan on Tumblr. "Anyone trying to twist this positivity into something it isn't needs to calm down. It costs zero dollars not to step on our gowns."

Perry was just one on a roster of special guests that made appearances in the video. Laverne Cox, Ellen Degeneres, the cast of Queer Eye, Adam Rippon, Ciara, RuPaul, and so many others joined in on the fun. Check out the video below.
