Taylor Swift was snubbed in this year’s Grammy noms, and Twitter is livid
The 2019 Grammy nominations were announced today, December 7th, and there were a ton of pleasant surprises. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were nominated for Record of the Year for Shallow (aka the A Star Is Born soundtrack), Cardi B is up for Album of the Year, and women dominated in a number of categories—after being largely shut out at the 2018 awards. But one potentially not-so-great thing? Taylor Swift got snubbed.
Her latest album, Reputation, came out in November 2017 to much fanfare, and it brought us hits like “Look What You Made Me Do,” “…Ready For It,” and “Delicate”—not to mention a number of epic music videos. It was released too late in 2017 to be considered for the 2018 Grammys, so many assumed it would sweep the 2019 ceremony.
But Reputation only received a single nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album (which isn’t considered a major category).
And Swifties are mad.
taylor swift not being nominated in any of the major categories at the grammys is uhhh… how do i put this… the dumbest thing i've ever heard lol

Taylor Swift saved pop music in 2017 and 2018. It’s time for her to save The Grammys— Leo (@LeoTs13) December 7, 2018
@taylorswift13 I'm so sorry for you that the best selling album of 2017 and 2018, the highest grossing tour of the decade, 2nd biggest female tour till now has only one nomination in #GRAMMYs . To be honest I'm so mad about it and #repdeservesagrammy . :') pic.twitter.com/VJIaXho63y

I didn’t even know Taylor Swift came out with an album this year

Swift wasn’t the only artist noticeably absent from the major nominations. Many noted that Beyoncé and Jay-Z didn’t get much recognition for their joint album Everything Is Love, nor did Ariana Grande for Sweetner. At the end of the day, the competition was fierce this past year, and there are a ton of incredibly talented artists who weren’t nominated. So don’t feel too bad, guys—we still love you, Grammy noms or not.
