Taylor Swift proves she’s the big sister of Tumblr, gives fan advice about starting school

It’s that time of year again. You hear it on the radio, you see it on TV, on billboards, in store windows: “Back to School.” One second ago, it was summer; now, suddenly, everyone really wants you to buy pens. With this overwhelming display constantly reminding you that classes will be starting up again in a few weeks, it’s totally understandable to get some “Back to School” butterflies.

Even Taylor Swift agrees. She said so on Tumblr.

We’ve seen Tay use Tumblr for good time and again, but recently she reached out to a fan who was feeling those “Back to School” butterflies hard. The fan, Stormie, posted about her anxiety on her account, saying, “I’ve been feeling so alone lately and left out of everything and so terrified of school starting and being even more alone next week and knowing taylor is there is really comforting.”

Taylor, who has shared that she overcame bullying in junior high school, responded to Stormie, encouraging her to hang in there. Stormie shared T-Swift’s uplifting advice on her Tumblr:

Taylor makes such a good point: It’s OK to be scared of things, but we can’t let those fears affect our decisions. Dwelling on negativity can hold you back, so it’s important to accept that there are some things we can’t control (like all of those “Back to School” advertisements). The only thing you can truly control is yourself. In the tail-end of her motivational message, Taylor stressed that self-love should always be a priority.

Wow. That’s pretty solid advice for anybody. Taylor is like the big sister/cool babysitter/awesome neighbor that we all wished we had!

Stormie received Taylor’s inspiring note at 3:30 in the morning, but that didn’t stop her from sharing it with Tumbr. “I’m so thankful for this. I really needed to hear it tonight and im really grateful to have her in my life,” Stormie said. “This really helped me and I hope it helps everyone else.”

It’s so kind that Stormie wanted to spread this positivity as far and wide as she could – there are probably loads of people feeling nervous about school and friends and self-confidence that really needed to hear Taylor’s kind words. Together, Stormie and Taylor let at least 4,000 people (which is how many have reblogged or liked the post) know that they are not alone.

Now if only Taylor could do something about those “Back to School” ads …
