Taylor Swift is a retro redhead in Sugarland’s new video teaser, and Twitter is here for it

You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl — right, Tay? Taylor Swift returns to her country roots with “Babe,” a collaboration between the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer and Sugarland. The “Babe” video teaser aired at last night’s June 6th CMT Awards, and Swift is red-haired, retro, and causing chaos.

Swift paired up with Pat Monahan from Train to write the song, a breakup story with an empowering twist. It’s part country, part pop, with Jennifer Nettles’ twangy voice paired with a lively guitar riff, along with Swift’s backing vocals and chorus. (“Babe” could have easily been a track off of Swift’s 2012 album Red, and our nostalgia is real). The song appears on Sugarland’s upcoming album Bigger, set to be released on June 8th.

Having climbed the Top 40 charts as a pop singer, Swift has been dipping her toes back into the country scene in recent years. In 2017, she wrote “Better Man” for Little Big Town, which earned Little Big Town a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, and also won Song of the Year at the CMAs. We have a feeling “Babe” has the potential to do just as well in this year’s awards circuit.

The Mad Men vibes are almost too hot to handle, and Twitter cannot get enough.

We’ll see Swift in her sultry, home-wrecking glory on Saturday, June 9th when the full video drops. She may be the Queen of Pop, but country still looks great on her.
