Here’s why everyone thinks Taylor Swift’s Lover will have a Selena Gomez and Katy Perry collab
With less than three weeks remaining until Taylor Swift drops her new album, Lover, fans are more convinced than ever that it will feature collaborations with Katy Perry and Selena Gomez. The “ME!” singer has yet to confirm the speculation, but a fan who attended Swift’s #LoverSecretSessions at her home in London on Friday, August 2nd, claims the trio of pop stars united to record a song about “women empowerment.”
News of the alleged collaboration comes two months after Swift and Perry put an end to their infamous feud when they both hugged it out at the end of Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” music video. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to believe the two wanted to work together on a song about empowering women, especially after years of being pitted against one another. As for Gomez, she and Swift are close friends and have never teamed up on a song together, so the timing of it all would be perfect since Gomez is also gearing up to release new music soon.
Of course, this is all speculation for now, but let’s examine the validity of these Swift/Perry/Gomez collab rumors.
According to Twitter user @blessedswifty, a fan leaked the information after attending Swift’s “secret” listening party. “There will be a Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry collab,” the account tweeted. “The song is all about women empowerment.”
Naturally, Swifties ran with the rumor and immediately tried to look for any other clues to confirm the collab is happening. This led to some pretty compelling evidence, including a clearly visible clue on Gomez’s Instagram account.
On Monday, August 5, Swift posted a photo of herself wearing a number of Easter egg-filled bracelets, some of which included some connections to her life.
One of the bracelets reads “CAT,” which could very well be a reference to her love for cats, but fans also theorized it could be a nod to Perry’s fanbase, whose members refer to themselves as “KatyCats.”
Meanwhile, eagle-eyed fans connected Swift’s “FEARLESS” bracelet to Gomez’s Instagram, which suspiciously features the word in all caps in her bio. “Light, space, zest,” it reads. “That’s God. With him on my side I’m FEARLESS, afraid of no one and nothing.”
If there’s one thing we know about Swift, nothing is a coincidence with her. Chances are, these fan theories could have a little truth to them, but we’ll just have to wait to find out when Swift drops Lover on August 23rd.
