Swifties rejoice! Taylor Swift’s music has returned to Spotify
Some semblance of balance has been restored to the world as Taylor Swift has finally returned her music to Spotify, which means we can stream Swiftie’s music as much as we bloomin’ well want to!
Now, Taylor’s “feud” with Spotify is well documented. Ahead of the release of her multi-million selling album 1989, Taylor pulled all her music off of Spotify and other streaming services. Writing an open letter for the Wall Street Journal, she explained her stance:
“Music is art, and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for,” she opined. “It’s my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album’s price point is.”
Much of TayTay’s stance stuck on Spotify’s insistence on maintaining a freemium tier of their service (meaning it’s a slim downed version of their premium service, but with adverts). Writing at the time, the streaming giant said that they hoped she would, at some point, change her mind.

As Apple Music launched a few months later, Taylor would again express her distrust of streaming services. The singer wrote another open letter to the tech giant on Tumblr where she chastised them for their initial decision to not pay writers, producers, or artists during their initial three month trial.
Apple would later backtrack on this decision, citing Taylor’s letter as part of the reasoning. The singer then partnered with the service to deliver her back catalogue (and 1989) exclusively on the streaming service, and would even make a documentary about her “1989 World Tour” with them.

Well, after nearly three years of withholding her music from Spotify, Taylor Swift’s entire back catalogue has now returned to the streaming service.
In an Instagram post, Taylor’s official fan community, Taylor Nation, shared a post announcing the news.
"In celebration of 1989 selling over 10 Million Albums Worldwide and the RIAA's 100 Million Song Certification announcement, Taylor wants to thank her fans by making her entire back catalog available to all streaming services tonight at midnight," the post reads.
In a statement, a representative for Taylor told Billboard that the singer’s music would also be returning to Tidal, Amazon Prime Music, and all other streaming services.
As of yet, TayTay herself has yet to speak about the decision (it’s all part of this newfound media blackout). It’s also unclear whether, when she supposedly releases new music later this year, that will appear on streaming services.
