Taylor Swift Moved Her ‘Evermore’ Release Date as a Courtesy to Paul McCartney

The music industry can be competitive, but it’s not always cutthroat. Actually, plenty of artists are incredibly supportive of their colleagues, even going so far as to reschedule album releases so they don’t conflict with other artists’ releases. That’s exactly what the queen of surprise albums Taylor Swift did before releasing this month’s Evermore. In a move to seemingly respect her elders (and her friends), Swift changed her release date so it wouldn’t be the same day as Paul McCartney’s newest album, McCartney III.

McCartney shared the fun tidbit in a recent interview on Howard Stern’s show, saying, “I did the Rolling Stone cover with Taylor Swift, and she just emailed me recently, and she said, ‘I wasn’t telling anyone, but I’ve got another album. And she said, ‘So I was going to put it out on my birthday.’”

Swift was told, though, that McCartney intended to release his album on December 10th, so she picked December 18th for the release of Evermore. After McCartney switched his release date to December 18th, Swift moved Evermore back to December 10th, just in time for her 31st birthday.

“So I mean, you know, people do keep out of each other’s way. It’s a nice thing to do,” McCartney said. How accommodating of Swift to juggle her release date so her pal and former Beatle wouldn’t have to compete against her? As the biggest release of December 10th, Evermore, is projected to have huge first-week numbers from sales and streaming, and at least this way both McCartney and Swift get their time to shine.

Now that Evermore is out, though, and McCartney is free to release his album tomorrow, the real question is whether or not we’re getting that third album from Swift in her (assumed) trilogy. She may have claimed it’s all fan lore but Folklore and Evermore seem like they would want a third dreamy album to complete the set, no?
