Um, did Taylor Swift’s new song just make us believe in love again?
After witnessing the end of one of our favorite star-powered relationships (*sobs* Miley and Liam *sobs*), we were in desperate need of a reminder that love exists. So, Taylor Swift answered the call. On August 15th, Swift dropped the lyric video to her latest single, “Lover,” from her upcoming album of the same name, and yes, despite what you’ve witnessed, love is real.
The lyrics of “Lover” seem to clearly be about a specific person: the one and only Mr. Joe Alwyn. At least, that’s what all of the Swifties are saying. But, if you ask us, the proof is in the lyric-video pudding, folks.
While the lyrics light up on a white sheet hung in what appears to be an attic, clips of Swift play in the background. We see a snippet of a British flag (Alwyn’s from London), a bunch of woodsy outdoor shots (Alwyn loves being outside, per his Instagram), and clips of Swift obviously happy and in love (she’s dating Joe, what more can we say?).
And we haven’t even gotten into the lyrics yet.
“There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning,” Swift told Vogue earlier this month. “This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory.”
“Lover” is definitely about the “enchanting” and “wonderful” parts of love (with Joe Alwyn!). Fans began unraveling the lyrics as soon as the track dropped at midnight.
“We could leave the Christmas lights up ’til January,” could definitely be in reference to these tree emojis Alwyn enjoys.
Not to be dramatic, but I think Joe has been a part of these Easter eggs all these years…… @taylorswift13 #Lover (Christmas lights till January) pic.twitter.com/S6N13PSE1n

And obviously the line “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ’em all” is Swift talking about how her relationships with Alwyn started three years ago in 2016. false

“[“Lover”] has one of my favorite bridges,” she told Vogue. “I love a bridge, and I was really able to go to Bridge City.”
Little did we know her bridge to “Lover” is basically her wedding vows to Alwyn. We’re overwhelmed.

Okay, so…who wants to get married? We’re ready right now.
