Taylor Swift just gave Kesha $250,000 to help with her legal battle
The news of singer Kesha’s court case loss has rocked the music industry—and not in a good way. This injustice shines a light on the industry’s priorities, as well as further cements the horrifying knowledge that, in one way or another, women are still silenced and cast aside when they’re brave enough to tell the truth. That’s why Taylor Swift just donated $250,000 to the cause.
If you aren’t caught up, Kesha is currently trapped in a contract with her producer Dr. Luke, unable to make new music unless it’s with the man she alleges has abused her for the past ten years. Learn more about Kesha’s battle with her record company over here.
On Friday, February 19th, the news broke that Kesha would not be allowed out of her contract, and the Internet rose up in anger. Prominent celebrities took to Twitter to shame Sony, her record company, and speak about the injustice of this case.
Taylor Swift joined people like Lady GaGa and Lorde in condemning this decision by donating $250,000 to the singer.
“In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time,” Tree Paine, Taylor’s spokesperson, told USA TODAY.
Our hearts continue to go out to Kesha, and we’re so grateful for people like Taylor, and everyone else working to help the singer during this hard time.
