Taylor Swift didn’t get nominated for a Grammy — here’s why
The 60th Annual Grammy Award nominations were announced today, November 28th. Although many talented artists — like Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and Lorde — made the nominee list, some fans noticed that one big name was missing: Taylor Swift was not nominated for a 2018 Grammy. However, there’s a legitimately good reason for the omission.
The 2017 Grammy nominations are for all songs/albums released between October 1st, 2016 and September, 30th 2017. Swift debuted her latest album, Reputation, on November 10th, 2017, meaning the album missed the cut off.
Swift’s single “Look What You Made Me Do” was released during the qualification window, though wasn’t nominated.
Although her album isn’t in the running this year, Swift is still technically up for two Grammy Awards. Her song “Better Man,” which she wrote for Little Big Town, is nominated for Best Country Song. She’s also nominated in the category Best Song Written For Visual Media alongside Jack Antonoff and Sam Dew for their song “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” from Fifty Shades Darker.
Swift has played this dangerous deadline game before. In the past, Swift released singles off 1989 and Red before the Grammy nomination deadline was up. Those singles — “Shake it Off” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” — were both nominated in their respective years.
Yes, there’s still hope for Taylor Swift and Reputation. Come 2019, we have a feeling we might be seeing a Reputation Grammy sweep. Stay tuned!
