Taylor Swift will star in a movie version of the musical Cats, and nothing has ever made more sense

There are two things we know for sure about Taylor Swift: she can sing and she loves her cats, like, a lot. We all know she’s the purrfect cat mom to her two kitties, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson. She carries them in her arms, gives them gifts, snaps cute pictures. She’s basically all about her cats. Which is why it makes perfect sense that she’s starring in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats.

The Andrew Lloyd Weber musical is being resurrected for a new generation, and since this world is more cat-obsessed than it was when the musical was first launched back in 1981, the movie revival makes total sense.

Swift, who hasn’t been seen onscreen as an actress since her appearance on New Girl in 2013, will star alongside a wide array of stars with some fine musical chops, including James Corden, Jennifer Hudson, and Ian McKellen. Though Hudson’s role as Grizabella, the former “glam cat” who sings the powerful balled “Memory,” was announced, it’s unclear what roles Swift, Corden, or McKellen will play.

But it doesn’t matter, really. All we know for sure is that Swift is going to dress up and sing as a cat, and that’s basically a fantasy come true for us all.

The adaptation will be directed by Tom Hooper, the Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech, and will shoot in Britain this fall, which is also pretty convenient for Swift considering her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, hails from the U.K.

No word on whether or not Meredith or Olivia will have cameos in the musical, but that would be pretty cat-tastic. Just saying.
