Taylor Swift’s birthday message to Ed Sheeran is the definition of BFF goals
This has been quite a week for Ed Sheeran. On Wednesday, the singer celebrated his 25th birthday. And on Monday, he won not one, but two Grammys. Ed took home the statues for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for the smash hit “Thinking Out Loud.” Through it all, nobody has been more supportive than his pal Taylor Swift. Which is pretty cool, considering her song “Blank Space” was also nominated for both awards.
Ed won the trophy for Best Pop Solo Performance during the pre-show awards ceremony (his first Grammy!). It might not have been televised, but it was still a special moment for the singer—and for Taylor. When the Grammys tweeted a message of congratulations, she immediately retweeted it with a simple “YES.”
A few hours later, Stevie Wonder called Ed’s name for Song of the Year. He smiled, hugged his parents and gave Taylor a squeeze before making his way to the stage. Meanwhile, Taylor was losing her mind, celebrating like she had won. But she wasn’t being selfish—she was just so genuinely happy that her dear friend was recognized. Yesterday, Taylor shared this beautiful story on Instagram as a birthday shoutout to Ed. She recalls the first time he played “Thinking Out Loud” for her, describes how much he inspires her and shares how proud she is of his success. Her message is so sweet and is giving us serious friendship goals.
Taylor and Ed grew close when he joined her on the 2013 Red Tour. We’re glad the two are so close and so supportive of each other. He’s an honorary male member of her #squad for sure. Congrats, Ed, and happy (belated) birthday!
