Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne sang “Complicated” this weekend and we’re still fangirling
In case you haven’t noticed, huge things have been happening on T-Swift’s 1989 tour. Like the time she hosted a wedding reception for two fans who got married at her concert, and helped another couple with their pregnancy announcement, and invited the entire U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team onstage. You know, NBD. Now, she’s done it again, and we’re freaking out, because it involves our middle school fave, Avril Lavigne.
In San Diego on Saturday, Taylor invited Avril on stage, and suddenly, we traveled back in time to the early ’00s. Specifically, 2002. That’s right: the duo sang Avril’s hit “Complicated,” because THE WORLD IS WONDERFUL. Also, the bestie vibes we’re getting are very, very real. Like, look at what Avril posted after the performance:
T-Swift was feeling the love, too. “So incredible sharing the stage with @AvrilLavigne!” Taylor tweeted late last night. “‘Complicated’ is such a brilliant pop song and I just love her.”
Earlier this week, the two got into a bit of a tiff on the Internet over a misunderstanding, but as always, Twitter totally blew it way out of proportion. When Taylor faved a tweet comparing her meet-and-greets to those of other music artists — including Avril — the tweet was brought to Avril’s attention by a fan Twitter account. “Comparison is judging and judging a person does not define who they are it [sic] defines who you are,” Avril tweeted in response. “We all Love [sic] our fans.” Then, Avril tweeted again with pictures of her own meet-and-greets that look a little more Swifty, saying, “So let’s keep it all about the love and stay positive.”
Well, all that is clearly smoothed over. After all, there’s honestly no better way to apologize to someone than inviting them up on your stage and having a totally rad time. And now, they are, indeed, keeping it all about the love. <3
Oh, in case you were wondering, yes, their performance was all caught on video, because the Internet is a beautiful thing. Check it out below and be prepared to get it stuck in your head forever.
