Could Taylor Swift *actually* be working on an R&B album?

Given that she’s one of the biggest popstars on the planet, there are bound to be rumors circulating about whether there’s a new Taylor Swift album in the works.

However, we were surprised as everyone to learn that there were whispers that Taylor might be recording…an R&B inspired album!?

Basically, all of this stems from those mutterings that Taylor Swift is somehow involved with Drake. All of these rumors are down to the fact that Taylor attended the Canadian rapper’s birthday party.

Well, according to a report in The Sun newspaper, Taylor has called up Drake to help her make her next album.

According to “a source” (hmmm), Taylor wants to try out a more urban sound for #TS6.

"Taylor is always looking at ways to grow as an artist and really wants to try something different and unexpected for the next album. She’s not afraid of experimenting so is working with a lot of different faces to see if she suits a new sound," the source revealed.

Now, given that Taylor has already collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on “Bad Blood,” it’s not out of the realms of possibility that she might also work with another rapper.

The source said that Drake was actually involved with the project.

"Drake has been her friend for a while and it seemed a no-brainer that she would spend time in the studio with him," they teased. "As well as writing with Taylor, he’s producing a few tracks and even lent his vocals to one song. It’s a real mix of edgier hip-hop and R&B sounds."

Of course, Taylor is no stranger to different styles of music. From her country roots, the singer also dabbled a little bit in the dubstep trend with “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and her last album, 1989, was the singer’s first fully pop album.

Similarly, it was revealed earlier this year that Taylor co-wrote Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s anthemic “This is What You Came For.”

However, there are also signs that Ms. Swift could be heading back to country music.

Not only was there that rumoured demo that was floating around, but Taylor was also revealed the to be the songwriter behind country music band Little Big Town’s new track “Better Man” and that she had written songs for Kings of Leon, too.

Also, Taylor performed a selection of older hits at her show in Texas last month, such as “Fifteen” and “You Belong With Me.” Likewise, the singer returned to the CMA Awards for the first time in years to present the award for Entertainer of the Year.

However, The Sun is pretty adamant that Taylor x Drake is happening.

"They share a real connection over their love of music and studio time and get on very well," the source added.

It’s definitely entirely plausible that Taylor Swift is working on music with Drake. However, we’re not 100% sure that an “R&B and hip hop” album is what the singer has in mind for the follow-up to 1989.

Given that there are rumors and theories that Taylor could drop new music at any time, however, we’re guessing we won’t have long to find out…
