A lifelong sufferer of dark eye circles puts Tatcha’s The Pearl Under-Eye Cream to the test
Some of you may know about my never-ending quest for under-eye fulfillment. Whether it be in the form of eye creams, concealers, or masks, my lifelong dream of finding the perfect product to squelch my dark circles is an obsession that is only rivaled by my love of cheese. And even though I’ve more or less come to terms with my intense dark circles in the last few years, I’m always excited by the possibility of trying new products. So when I heard that Tatcha had launched The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment, I knew I had to get my hands on it. The Pearl costs $48 and comes in three shades: Moonlight, Softlight, and Candlelight.
I didn’t think it could get much better than Ole Henriken’s Banana Bright Eye Creme, but I was intrigued by the fact that Tatcha touted this under-eye treatment as both an eye cream and concealer in one. It aims to target dark circles, dullness, fine lines, and wrinkles in the delicate eye area. What do you know? I have all these things! The cream has a pearl-like luster and smooth, soft consistency that hydrates your skin, which we all know diminishes wrinkles both immediately and over time.
As a person who has looked tired since 1998, all I ever want is to look refreshed and rested.
Technically, Tatcha The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment should eliminate the need for eye cream, but I decided that I needed just a touch of my Banana Bright. I layered my usual moisturizer on with a dot of eye cream and let them soak in so that they wouldn’t affect the application of the Tatcha cream. As you can see, I look tired as hell, but at least the moisturizer makes me look a bit dewy.
Along with my delightful dark circles, I’ve got one or two marked lines under my eyes – chalk it up to years of tugging on my contacts and the fact that I’m approaching 34 years of living in my human body on this planet.
Without makeup
Once my skincare had sufficiently absorbed, I gently patted a small amount of Tatcha’s The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment in Moonlight under my eye and on the lid itself. It’s incredibly creamy, silky soft, and virtually scent-free.
You can see that it definitely neutralized a fair amount of the under-eye circles and looks very moisturizing. My skin felt super nourished, and the lightest shade seems to have been a good match for my skin tone. It’s a great alternative to concealer if you’re going for a very natural look. I plan on bringing it on my beach vacation next week for a no-makeup look that will keep my sleep face from scaring the towns-children.
That said, as someone with oily lids, I was disappointed that it slid off my face fairly quickly. I wore it for an entire day without additional makeup, and within an hour or so, it had all but disappeared. My sense is that if you are someone with a drier under-eye area, you will LOVE this product, either with or without additional makeup. But since I have oily skin, my face ate it up relatively quickly.
With makeup
When I wore the Tatcha’s Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment with makeup, it gave my concealer a natural and pretty boost.
It looked super pretty and radiant upon initial application, just like I like it. But, unfortunately, because of my oily skin, it caused the concealer to disappear relatively quickly as well. It didn’t make it through the day for me. I need a thicker consistency, and the softness just didn’t cut it in the long-term.
That said, I am definitely adding it into my rotation for makeup-free days! I love that it’s a multi-purpose product and that it’s infused with Tatcha’s famously luxurious ingredients.
Final thoughts
If you’re looking for an alternative for concealer, have dry-ish skin, or don’t usually use under-eye concealer and want a bit of a boost, then this is absolutely the product for you. A tiny bit goes a long way, so this little container will last you a really long time, making it worth the investment.
