Taraji P. Henson is writing a memoir and we are so ready
Taraji P. Henson — aka the woman who plays fierce and ambitious and passionate and street smart Cookie Lyon on Empire — has been unstoppable lately. And now, the Oscar-nominated actress just announced that she will be writing a memoir, due mid-2016, and we seriously can’t wait to get our hands on a copy.
The as-yet-untitled memoir will follow Henson’s childhood growing up in Washington, DC, along with her experiences as a single mother raising her son, Marcel. Of course, Henson will also discuss her long and diverse career as an actress both in film and television — which just might mean we’ll finally get a little extra insight into Cookie, both as a character and as a badass family woman. (YES!)
“I know Taraji Henson will bring the same magnetism and dynamism to the page that she brings to the screen,” publisher Dawn Davis said in a statement. “Beyond the glamour, beyond the larger-than-life persona, Taraji Henson exudes an every-woman quality that her audience, which grew with each episode of Empire, can relate to.”
Henson made the official announcement to her fans via Instagram last night with a screenshot of the Hollywood Reporter article that broke the news, along with the caption, “As promised!” It was all kinds of wonderful, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
In case next year feels like an unbearably long time to wait, fear not: there are plenty of ways to get your Henson fix on in the interim. Just last night, Henson stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers and talked about why she knew Empire would be the success that it’s become — and she dished on her favorite improvised Cookie insults from the show (some of which are absolutely iconic). This weekend, Henson will also be hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time — which is guaranteed to be next-level incredible. Here’s hoping it’s all enough to keep us occupied until her memoir comes out next year!
