Take Out Fake Out: Butter Chicken Pizza
I have a pretty intense obsession with Indian food, as evidenced here and here. Which was then translated into a recipe that involved pizza, because really, what kind of world would this be without pizza? My thought process was pretty much, well this thing is good and so is this thing, so let’s combine those two good things into one super good thing.
As you can tell, my thoughts are obviously very complicated and my vocabulary is vast..
I am definitely NOT the first person to put butter chicken on a pizza. I 100% did not invent this, but as a person who has ordered this same pizza as take out for $25 for a medium, I knew I had to recreate it at home. This is super easy to put together and so delicious. It is such a fresh twist on a basic old pizza. To save time you can use a store bought crust or I gave you the option of using my quick pizza dough recipe below.
Enjoy guys! As usual, please comment below if you have an idea of something you would like to see on an upcoming edition of Take Out Fake Out!
Butter Chicken Pizza:
Serves 3
Total time: 35 minutes
Total time where you’re actually doing things: 15 minutes
What you need:
- 1 prepared pizza crust on a non stick cookie sheet (not cooked) my recipe is below
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 small chicken breasts diced
- 1 jar (14 oz/400ml) butter chicken sauce ( I used Patak’s Brand)
- 2 tbsp Sriracha chile sauce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 2 cups grated mozzarella
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
In a medium saute pan, heat oil over medium high heat, add chicken breasts and saute until browned and cooked through, add the jarred butter chicken sauce and the sriracha. Bring to a simmer and turn off the heat. Set aside.
Top the prepared pizza dough with the butter chicken, you may not need all the chicken and sauce. Then add the tomatoes, followed by the mozzarella.
Bake for 15 minutes and then lower heat to 375 and bake for another 5-7 minutes until the cheese is browned and the crust is golden. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the cilantro. Allow the pizza to cool in the pan for 5-6 minutes. Move to a cutting board and slice into squares.
Enjoy! Pizza Crust recipe below!
Thin and Crispy Pizza Dough:
makes one large pizza dough (size of a regular cookie sheet)
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp Yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 1/2 cup flour
In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in water and then sprinkle the yeast over the water. Allow to sit for 10 minutes.
After the 10 minutes is up, add the salt, oil and 1/2 cup of flour and stir until smooth. Add another 1/2 cup of flour and stir again,. If the mixture is still very sticky, add in a little more flour and begin to knead. Knead for about 5 minutes, adding more flour if needed, until the dough becomes soft and elastic. Best thing about this recipe? It doesn’t need to rise! Throw it in a pan, add toppings, bake and enjoy.
