Taco Bell lasagna is the dream come true dinner we didn’t know we needed

I know I’m not alone in saying that sometimes, I feel like eating two different types of cuisine and have a really hard time choosing just one – especially when I’ve been eating well and want to treat myself to something totally indulgent. Do I go with Italian? Cheese, tomato sauce, and pasta galore. Yum. Or Mexican? Chips and guac for days = instant win. So dilemma. Such sad.

Luckily us indecisive food-indulgers, though, there are geniuses in this world who have made being forced to choose just one cuisine type for a single meal a thing of the pre-2016 era. One of these is Elie Ayrouth, founder of food-and-drink blog Foodbeast, who has constructed a lasagna made completely of ingredients you can procure from your neighborhood Taco Bell.

Say it with me: IT’S. SO. BEAUTIFUL.

In a blog posted on Foodbeast yesterday, Ayrouth takes readers through the entire harrowing journey, from his initial brain worm to picking up his lucky roommate Matt Maine to join him (who, intelligently, changed into stretchy pants beforehand), to how much money he spent ($80, worth it) and exactly how he built the Frankenstein’s monster of dinners. This included Cheesy Roll-Ups, burritos, nacho cheese, side orders of ground beef (which you can apparently buy – noted), shredded cheese, sauce packets, refried beans, sour cream, and guacamole. The guys also used actual lasagna noodles to separate the layers and large flour tortillas for the base, which were the only ingredients they got at a grocery store as opposed to Taco Bell.

We aren’t sure if the Taco Bell mystery item can live up to this. But what we do know is, between the secret menu item and this new lasagna, 2016 is shaping up to be a pretty great year – maybe the year I’ve been most proud to be an American.

Check out the video below to see exactly how Ayrouth and Maine built this awe-inspiring creation, complete with soothing background music and slow-motion parts, for dramatic effect. And if you want to recreate the Taco Bell lasagna, we won’t judge. Just…please share.
