This is supposedly the ~scariest~ movie trailer ever

What makes a scary movie trailer scary? Are there a certain number of ingredients? A formula? Is there a correct equation for scary, scarier, scariest?

20th Century Fox teamed up with scientists at IBM Research to find out, and to use the data to create the first-ever cognitive movie trailer for Morgan – an A.I. horror film starring Kate Mara, Anya Taylor Joy, Rose Leslie, and Jennifer Jason Leigh (what a rad lineup of ladies).

Using experimental Watson APIs and machine learning techniques to analyze hundreds of horror trailers, the artificial intelligence system then watched Morgan and suggested the top 10 best moments to use in a trailer.

Here’s the result:

We certainly find it compelling, if not downright scary. Compared to the official trailer, it’s more suspenseful, but tells us less about the film. Check out the original (and less scary) trailer:

But both trailers do the job of making us want to see it. Morgan plays in theaters beginning September 2, 2016. If for no other reason, we’ll go for Kate and Rose, not to mention the other rocking women. But we can never get enough Kate or Rose. Could we get an A.I. machine to build us as much Kate and Rose content as humanly consumable? No? You know nothing, Jon Snow.
