6 ways you can support counter-protestors in Charlottesville if you can’t physically be there

If you’re like us, the horrific events that unfolded over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia shook you to your core. From the parade of torch-wielding white supremacists across the University of Virginia’s campus to the hate-fueled violence that erupted as armed neo-Nazis flooded the city’s streets waving Confederate flags, American alt-right extremists enacted chilling displays of intolerance, racism, and bullish brutality.

But now is not the time to despair, friends. No matter if you reside tens, hundreds, or even thousands of miles away from Virginia, this hits us ALL where we live — and you can support counter-protestors in Charlottesville, even if you can’t physically be there.

From donating to organizations fighting the good fight to showing love to individuals directly impacted by the violence in Charlottesville, here’s how you can lend a helping hand from afar.

1. Stand in solidarity with the NAACP Charlottesville Chapter.

2. Make a donation the University of Virginia’s Black Student Alliance.

3. Support the National Organization for Women’s (NOW) chapter in Charlottesville.

4. Show love to the memory of Heather Heyer, the woman killed at Saturday’s rally, and her family.

5. Stand up for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters through the Charlottesville Pride Community Network.

6. Fight for justice for all with Charlottesville’s Legal Justice Aid Center.

No money? No problem! Spread the word by ‘like’-ing, retweeting, regramming, and sharing links on social media. It’s pretty powerful (and so are you). Don’t forget that every little bit does help. So, let’s get active, y’all, and show Charlottesville residents we’ve got their backs.
