Super ready for this movie about Iris Apfel, the feminist style icon of our dreams

Style icon Iris Apfel is the subject of a new documentary by Albert Maysles ( a name you probably know from directing Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens) and it looks so beyond awesome that there aren’t even words.

In case you aren’t familiar with Iris, she’s a businesswoman, a major trend setter in fashion, interior design and how to live your best life — and has been for all of those things decades. At 93 years old she knows a few things about life, style, and being your true self.

Back when Iris was a young woman Frieda Loehmann, yes like the department store, told her, “You’re not pretty and you’ll never be pretty, but it doesn’t matter. You have something much better. You have style.” It seems that style has never faltered (and for the record we think Iris is gorg).

I mean, the woman is amazing. If the above credits aren’t enough to her name, she also took part in design restoration projects for nine presidents and credits herself as the first woman to wear jeans. With her iconic round glasses and one-of-a-kind sense of style, she has been one of the most out-of-this-world members of the global style elite, and we cannot wait to see Iris.

In the trailer, we get a taste of Iris’s ahead-of-the-curve look and mile long career. We also get this amazing little blurb of wisdom, which seems to sum her up perfectly: “I don’t have any rules because I would only be breaking them.”

Iris hits theaters in New York on April 28th.
