800 hours + tons of yarn = the ultimate crocheted Super Mario tribute

You may be a ‘Super Mario Bros. 3’ lover (and if you are, ALL the props to you!), but you’d be pretty hard-pressed to match up to Kjetil Nordin. After a long, hard 800 hours (which translated into six and a half years), Kjetil has created the most awesome tribute EVER: a crocheted map of World One (which, according to Reddit, seems to be for the Super Mario All-Stars version of the game).

Kjetil, a computer programmer who moonlights as a champion skydiver (because why not be the MOST badass person ever?), didn’t *just* crochet a map. In fact, he researched the exact yarn colors needed to make a perfect copy of the map, according to NRK. “When the water was half way finished I saw that I had chosen the wrong shade of blue,” Kjetil told NRK. “It was almost purple, and very ugly, so I had to undo all of it. That took an extra week.”

All of that hard work has paid off! Redditor AlexKingshill, a friend of Kjetil, originally posted the fabulous map with some super awesome shots of the blanket, which is approximately seven-feet-two-inches by five-foot-ten-inches.

Kjetil, who lives in Denmark, has been crocheting gifts for his friends and family for a while now, but this was his largest project to date. “You get a bit sick of such long lasting projects,” he told NRK. “The great thing is that I’ve been able to take as many breaks as I’ve wanted to.”

Now that he’s all finished, he’s looking for ways to hang his ultimate fan creation on his wall without damaging it. But when it comes to future projects, Kjetil isn’t trying to rush anything. “I have no idea, but I’ve gotten some suggestions,” he said. “I spent such a long time thinking before I chose this project, so I can’t rush it. I’ll have a break, and think for a while.”

We totally love this amazing handmade fan creation and can’t wait to see what else Kjetil comes up with, because he’s got some SERIOUS talent.
