Geeking out over this amazing Super Mario Bros. cake animation
We’ve officially done it: We’ve discovered the most amazing thing on the Internet. Well, it’s at least today’s most amazing thing on the Internet. This YouTube video combines three of the Internet’s favorite things: stop-motion videos, fantastic cake creations and old-school video games. Behold: an animated Super Mario Bros. cake.
Yes, you read that correctly—it’s an animated cake. Check it out in all its glory:
Koopas have never looked so delicious! This amazing cake is a recreation of World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. Cake Mario jumps, grows, shrinks and flattens enemies in an exact recreation of the first level. The inspiration came from the opening of Super Mario 64. Princess Toadstool relays to Mario, “Please come to the castle. I’ve baked a cake for you.”
The video comes to us from a seriously crafty superfan. He enlisted the help of his sister, a baker, to create everything he’d need to bring the cake to life. That includes—but is not limited to—cupcake Goombas (both regular and flattened), a gingerbread castle, cake pop mushrooms and various Mario sugar cookies.
It took some crazy-impressive brainpower to bring the four-tiered cake to life, and it shows in the final product. If you’re curious to see how it all came together, there’s also a behind-the-scenes video where you can see him rigging Mario, turning the cake and comparing his creation to the original video game.
