Here’s how the cast of “Suicide Squad” got their insane looks

The “Suicide Squad” aesthetics were totally unreal. Like, “How are they even pulling that off?” kind of unreal. We are dying to know how celebrities as hot as Cara Delevingne and Margot Robbie were transformed into monsters. Luckily for us, Allure spoke with the styling team for the movie and got the behind-the-scenes details.
Every day, they rocked custom-made temporary tattoos that sometimes took hours to apply. Harley Quinn also sported very rigid pigtails, and the hair and makeup team needed a way to support them.
It turns out they used the ends of walking canes to reinforce her hair, cutting holes in them and painting them so that they worked like the world’s least flexible hair ties.[subheader]
She also told PEOPLE that her and Jared Leto’s combined makeup- which was essentially a coat of silicone and water based white paint applied over his whole face and body- made their kissing scenes super messy. She said,
“I’ve done kissing scenes where I have lipstick on and that’s a nightmare but to have two of you having the lipstick on, it’s terror.” Apparently, they had to spend 10 minutes reapplying makeup after every take!” [subheader]
On the other hand, Cara’s hair was a wig that was made in part with mop strings that “we dyed, burned, and glued together.” Her skin was meant to look like a cross between wood and reptile scales, and to achieve it, she wore foundation, four kinds of clay, and literal GOLD leaf .
Finally, if you’re looking to replicated Robbie’s signature red lip, the lipstick that the stylists used is currently sold out, but don’t worry- this M.A.C. alternative is a close second.
