7 studio audiences we all want to be in

Studio audiences are the laugh track of our lives. To be part of one is an experience like no other – the lights! The cameras! The celebrity hosts! The applause prompts! Here are only a handful that seem (or seemed!) like the BEST time:

1) Oprah’s Favorite Things

Of course to be in any Oprah studio audience would be an honor, but the most coveted of all Oprah studio audiences was Oprah’s Favorite Things. Why? Because: FREE STUFF. And not boring free stuff like pens, but expensive Oprah-approved free stuff. We’re talking satchels, Josh Groban CDs, cashmere anything, and  fancy croissants. Bonus: if you weren’t into material things, you could use the hour as an excuse to just FREAK. OUT.

2) America’s Funniest Home Videos

If there’s on thing we all love, it’s real-life surprise moments. To be part of an AFV audience would be one hour of pure laughter, mainly at hilarious groin mishaps and babies ruining birthdays.

Tom Bergeron has been hosting AFV for the last 15 years, but let’s take a moment to remember the pre-YouTube days of John Fugelsang, Daisy Fuentes and of course – Mr. Bob Saget!

3) Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

Remember when a million dollars used to mean something? Being part of this studio audience would have been really unique experience because it came with such responsibility — the “ask the audience” lifeline. That’s right, it was our time to shine and vote for the correct answer. And when has the audience ever been wrong?

4) The Price is Right

As kids, when we watched this show “sick” home from school, didn’t we all dream of wearing that bright yellow name tag, being called to “come on down!” and bidding $1 above the next person? Or what about the chance to play Plinko, strategically spin the giant wheel, and tenderly hug Bob? Or to win it all at the Showcase Showdown? Even if your name doesn’t get called, you could still have a blast screaming your pricing guesses at the contestants. Hey, if it’s good enough for Aaron Paul, it’s good enough for us.

5) Whose Line Is It Anyway?

The show where everything is made up and the points don’t matter. This has got to be the most fun studio audience of all time, right? You watched super-talented improvisors be unimaginably hilarious AND you had get the chance to participate in skits like sound effects, moving people, and living scenery. Wayne Brady could have even sung a song about you (with the help of Laura Hall, of course). If you haven’t seen the Richard Simmons’ Whose Line episode, do yourself a favor and watch it now.

6) Uh Oh!

This is for all of our fellow Canadian readers out there! Uh Oh was the ultimate game show for us ’90s kids where three color-coded teams were pitted against each other. If they failed challenges, they got slimmed by The Punisher (with green slime, classic ’90s!) To be part of Uh Oh’s studio audience meant that you could choose which team to support by wearing a colored t-shirt. You’d cheer on your favorite team, boo The Punisher, and sometimes get covered in goo, slime, or even pie.

7) “Star Search” shows

By Star Search shows we mean reality shows in search of the next superstar. We’re talking America’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol, The Voice, X Factor. These are the shows where dreams go to live, or die — and as the studio audience you would get to see it all happen in real time, in real life. Just imagine the highs, the lows, or the Susan Boyle-level shockers that could change your life forever. It’s not just a studio audience experience, it’s a journey.
