The Strawberry Full Moon is about to sweeten the sky, and here’s what you need to know

Early June 28th, just before 1 a.m. EST, the Strawberry Full Moon will hang in the night sky at its peak fullness. The gorgeous full moon wasn’t given its fruity name for no reason, either — the name is tied to the land and its agricultural rhythms.

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac online, June’s full moon is called the Strawberry Moon because the Algonquin tribe used it as a sign to begin picking wild strawberries. In locations where wild strawberries aren’t native, June’s full moon was called the Full Honey Moon, Full Hot Moon, or the Full Rose Moon.

Although the Strawberry Full Moon rises around the same time as the Summer Solstice takes place — that occurred on June 21st — it’s rare that these two natural events happen on the same date. In 2016, the Strawberry Full Moon fell on the Summer Solstice for the first time since 1967, and they won’t line up again until June 21st, 2062.

But even though this upcoming Strawberry Full Moon won’t coincide with the Solstice, it will still be a remarkable event to behold — as all full moons are, in our opinion.

If you’re not planning on harvesting strawberries come June 28th, there are several other ways you can celebrate the Strawberry Full Moon. According to D.J. Now is an excellent time to focus on new relationships or reflect on past connections.

Journaling, tarot, and spell work are always more potent during full moons, too, and Conway notes that the Strawberry Full Moon greatly enhances psychic abilities. Take advantage of the moon’s energy during these times of reflection.

Alternatively, celebrate the Strawberry Full Moon with friends. Throw a garden party complete with a fruit-filled menu. Serve strawberry shortcake and rose tea in honor of the Rose Moon. We’re always looking for a good reason to party, and the Strawberry Full Moon fits the bill.
