The internet really, really dislikes this one episode of “Stranger Things”

Even the most perfect things in the world have little flaws, you know? Nothing is so pure it is without fault, which is why Season 2 of Stranger Things gave us our first official dud of an episode. In a season that hit the ground running, and really kept the momentum going the whole time, in Episode 7, “The Lost Sister,” things kinda…fall apart. This episode feels like it came from the Upside Down, and not in a good way.

If you for some reason didn’t watch all nine episodes this weekend, first, what the hell are you doing here. And second, come on. But anyway, here’s what goes down in Episode 7:

Eleven, not trapped in the Upside Down anymore, is living a quiet and secluded life with Police Chief Jim Hopper. He doesn’t want her making contact with the outside world juuuuust yet, to keep her safe. Eleven, being Eleven, is like “f that,” and runs away from home in search of her mother. Once there, she manages to talk to her mother, via her power, and learns that she has a sister.

Or, better yet, “sister.” The two aren’t blood related, bur rather grew up in the lab together. This other girl is branded 008, and her name is Kali. Eleven believes that her mother is sending her to find Kali, so Eleven gets on a bus and finds Kali in Chicago. What follows is like…a bottle episode? In the sense that the events of the episode really only take place in one location, and with a few characters. Oh, and also the characters are Kali and her own criminal “family,” because Kali is hunting down people who hurt her in Hawkins’ lab, and she’s straight up MURDERING THEM.

The episode is basically like Eleven’s Big Day Out, and to put it nicely, it is completely unnecessary. We don’t need to see Eleven choose between her “sister” and her friends, because we know she’s going to choose her friends. Also, the introduction of Kali, aka Eight, feels wasted, and it only stirs more questions — namely, where are 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 009, 010?

Upon first watch of the episode, I was like, “Wow, I hope I’m not the only one who just didn’t like this 45 minutes of television.” Turns out, I was not, because the internet and I agree on this:

false false

Good alternative idea: false

But, if you liked it, don’t worry. Others did, too!

While it doesn’t sound like Kali will be getting her own Stranger Things spin-off anytime soon, hopefully the episodes revolving around 001-007, 009, 010 are a little more exciting.
