Stop everything: Sisqo just remade “The Thong Song”

Let’s briefly flash back to 1999. We partied, as Prince asked us to, and we were strangely fearing Y2K. And we did it all while listening to “The Thong Song” by Sisqo. Sure, some of us might not have even known what a thong was at that point, but according to Sisqo, it was something worth celebrating.

The song, which was pretty much the hit of the summer, obviously meant a lot to Sisqo. Why? Well, because he just released a brand new “Thong Song” remix. And as predicted, it’s making us remember a much simpler time.

The artist worked with Norwegian DJ trio JCY to help add an extra edge to the tune. We think he created yet another masterpiece. (And just in case it’s not obvious, you might not want to watch this one at work.)

According to a Buzzfeed interview with Sisqo, he got a lot of requests to remake the hit.

"I’ve been asked so many times over the years to make a new version of 'Thong Song' and I have declined every time until I heard the new version that JCY did," he said. "I thought it was dope and figured maybe it was time to put some new rims on the Bugatti."

Sisqo also admitted that he dislocated three ribs before making the video, and that was only one of the issues the team faced prior to shooting. We must say, we’re even more impressed with the video after learning a little bit of the behind-the-scenes scoop.

Of course, you might need a refresher. So, here’s the original version in case you prefer “Thong Song Classic.”

Maybe Sisqo will end up being the pioneer of a brand new trend. We could think of a ton of ’90s songs that also deserve a fresh twist.
