Here’s why we’re still waiting for a new ‘Game of Thrones’ book

If you’re anxiously waiting for the next installment of author George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, you’re not alone. It’s been almost five years since A Dance With Dragons hit bookstores, and according to Martin, The Winds of Winter doesn’t have a release date in sight. Even the Game of Thrones TV series has started diverting from the source material as the two become more and more separated.

However, Martin has a reason for the delay.”Writer’s block isn’t to blame here, it’s distraction,” he explained at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. Turns out, his life is pretty crazy as of late:

While we definitely are itching for the next book in the series, we totally understand how it could be difficult to juggle it all. Hopefully things calm down so the revered author can do some much-needed writing. If the sixth season could just hurry up, we’d have something to distract ourselves with.
