Steven Avery just broke his silence to send his supporters a message

While we’ve binged Netflix’s Making A Murderer (maybe even more than once), the subject of the 10-part documentary hasn’t seen a single episode. Steven Avery, who was convicted of killing photographer Teresa Halbach back in 2005 and is serving a life sentence for it, was denied a request to watch the series from prison. That, however, hasn’t stopped him from voicing his own opinion about what’s happening outside.

Though meeting with Avery in prison is difficult, he has been able to send letters back and forth. His new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, recently received one. In it, he writes in his standard cursive (which we saw again and again on Making a Murderer) and comments on some recent case developments. Namely, that forensic testing might soon be brought into the mix.

The note, dated January 29, reads, “To My Supporter’s: I want Every Forensic Test Possible Done B/c I am Innocent.”

Last night, Zellner sat down with Dateline NBC to discuss this need for forensic testing, explaining that it’s advanced so much since Avery’s trial. She later took to Twitter to echo her remarks on the show.

The Netflix series might be done and over with for now, but the streaming site is already considering a second season of it. More episodes are clearly necessary, because even though there was a conviction, this case is still far from over.
