Stephen Colbert shot down Trump’s “I’d have run into the school” comment so hard, it’ll make you cheer

When most of us hear Trump make a ridiculous comment, all we do is roll our eyes (and pledge to vote in the 2018 midterms, of course). But when Stephen Colbert hears Trump make a ridiculous comment, he and his writing staff get to work on some hilariously kickass jokes.

At a meeting with a group of governors on Monday, February 26th, Trump addressed the idea of arming teachers and putting more guns in schools in the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. “You don’t know until you test it, but I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon,” Trump said (a comment that has since been mocked far and wide).

And on Monday night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host didn’t mince words. After playing a clip of Trump’s comments, Colbert said, “Okay. There’s a lot in there that I doubt, but the part I really don’t believe is that he can run” (cue audience cheers).

“Look, sir, we already know how you react to combat situations," the late-night host continued. "You got five deferments from Vietnam. What are you gonna do, run in there and stab ’em with your bone spurs?

“As long as you’re living in a fantasy world, sir, at least make it interesting,” Colbert advised. Then (in his best “Trump voice”), he said:

"Even if I had a gun, I would've dropped it, just to show how tough I was. Then, I would've run in and hit the shooter with my laser beam eyes, then use my mind like Neo in the Matrix and fly away to space Mar-a-Lago."

Thank you, Mr. Colbert. We really, really needed this.
