The Step Up series is headed to TV, and here’s who is returning from the original cast

After broadcasting on YouTube for two seasons, Step Up, the series based on the films of the same name, will air its third season on Starz. Fans are thrilled the show has been picked back up after YouTube cancelled the series in August 2019. And what’s more is that several returning cast members are already slated to come back to the small screen.

According to Entertainment Weekly, season three of Step Up will star fan favorites Ne-Yo, Naya Rivera, Petrice Jones, Faizon Love, Marcus Mitchell, Jade Chynoweth, Carlito Olivero, Terrence Green, Eric Graise, and Kendra Oyesanya.

Tricia Helfer of Battlestar Galactica and Lucifer fame will also join the cast as a new character named Erin.

“[Creator and executive producer] Holly [Sorensen] and her team have created a new and dynamic iteration of the series that captures the hallmarks that have made the Step Up franchise so successful and elevates the storytelling for the premium, global audience,” Starz President of Original Programming Christina Davis said in statement, per EW. “This, coupled with the worldwide appeal of the multi-talented, multicultural cast, will make this series a great addition to our slate.”

The Step Up series pulls inspiration from the original four Step Up films, which started with 2006’s Step Up starring Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. The series focuses on Ne-Yo’s Sage Odom, founder of the High Water Performing Arts School in Atlanta, Georgia, and his partner Collette, played by Rivera.

In the upcoming season, Sage and Collette will have to jump over devastating hurdles such as criminal charges, potential financial ruin, and dangerous local politics.

If you have yet to dig into the Step Up series, you can do so now via the Starz streaming app or on demand. The prior two seasons, collectively known as Step Up: High Water, will be available to stream ahead of the third season’s debut.

Though there’s no set release date for Step Up Season 3, fans are simply excited that it’s in the works. Updates on its release are hopefully on their way.
