Starbucks WILL give you a free refill on your coffee — but there’s a catch

When it comes to coffee, it’s safe to say we’ve spent more than we’d like to admit at Starbucks. While we don’t even want to know what we could buy (three thousand bean and cheese burritos? A house?) if we didn’t make our daily runs to the Seattle-based coffee chain, we just learned something AMAZING about the chain. Apparently, Starbucks allows FREE refills on coffee, but there is a small catch.

The free refill policy for Starbucks customers in the U.S. only applies to those using a Starbucks card or making a purchase through the mobile app. After purchasing any beverage on the menu and then showing the same Starbucks Card or app purchase, you can become eligible for a free refill of either a coffee or tea in the tall size.

Their online policy is clear though: The free refill is only available during the same visit. The policy says:

“Once you leave the store, your visit has ended and any subsequent coffee or tea refill thereafter would be considered a new purchase. Refills are not available in the Drive Thru.

However, outside the U.S. the policy is a ~little~ different. In the U.K. and Ireland, the free refill of a tall coffee only applies when you buy drip coffee. As with U.S. stores, once you leave the chain, your eligibility for a free refill ends.

Sure it seems like a few hoops to jump through to get some free coffee, but we’ll take it. A little caffeine can go a long way, especially if we can also save a few pennies!
