We don’t really understand Starbucks’ “mega coffee center”

Starbucks is creating something called a “mega coffee center” and we have questions. So. Many. Questions.


Even though Starbucks basically rules the world with its over 21,000 stores in over 65 countries, the chain still wants to continue to expand. In 2014, they opened their Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room eight blocks away from their first store in Seattle. This space allows consumers to enjoy freshly brewed coffee as they watch Starbucks’ working roasters from the comfort of a cafe.

While the above concept sounds amazing as is, the coffee chain is now aiming to top it with a 15,000 to 25,000-square-foot coffee hub, according to the New York Post. This ginormous location will apparently be similar to the Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room, but on a much greater scale.


Now, we’re trying to imagine what exactly the mega coffee center will include. Will it essentially be like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, but with coffee? Will there be a coffee river and top-secret rooms filled with exotic coffee beans? (If so, we’d like a golden ticket. STAT.)

Or, maybe Starbucks is looking to open a giant restaurant devoted to coffee. They could have coffee-infused entrees, desserts dusted with espresso powder, and a selection of decadent, coffee-based beverages. It would be like a culinary wonderland for coffee lovers!


The suspense is killing us. What exactly will the megastore house?!

When asked about this new venture, a Starbucks representative told Cosmopolitan that the report was “speculative” and that “Starbucks doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation.” (We seriously hope this isn’t just a rumor.)

Yet, here’s one thing that isn’t a rumor: Starbucks aspires to open more Reserve stores soon. They wrote that Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. may be the homes of potential locations.

While we’re definitely too excited about this, we can’t wait until our mega coffee center questions are answered. In the meantime, we’re hoping that a Reserve store opens up close by because how cool would it be to watch the entire coffee-making process (while drinking a fresh cup of coffee!)?
