You can, and should, make your own “Star Wars” inspired short film for the new #GoRogue campaign
In this beautiful digital age, sometimes the only thing better than watching a Star Wars movie with your own eyes is seeing what the rest of the world has to say about it online. After 39 years, Star Wars and fan engagement really come hand in hand, and it’s hard to have one without the other. Maybe you’re still laughing about that one video of Matthew McConaughey crying over the Force Awakens trailer (I know I am).
Star Wars actually just crunched the numbers, and discovered that last year alone, there was over 800,000 fan generated pieces of Star Wars content uploaded to the internet, which breaks down to over 2,000 things A DAY. As for how many people have actually watched them…an estimated 106 BILLION. With a B.
As if you need to be told, Star Wars fans are ridiculously passionate about this galaxy far, far away.
Tapping into that love, ahead of the upcoming Rogue One, Star Wars is launching their own fan-generated video series, #GoRogue. Even cooler, these videos will be used to showcase the brand new Rogue One toys launching this fall. This is like, having your blue milk, and drinking it, too.
The first video launched today, and it is ???. (And no, this isn’t the plot of Rogue One, don’t freak out!)

Does this look like something you want to do, too? Well, guess what, you can, and it’s highly encouraged. As part of the brand new #GoRogue campaign, you can create, make, and film your own Rogue Story, upload it to the internet, and then you just might win a trip to visit Lucasfilm headquarters and attend a screening of Rogue One — and that’s all for simply loving Star Wars.
“These fan-created shorts are a tribute to the incredible content that the Star Wars community posts online every day,” Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media explained in a press release. “The #GoRogue campaign was designed with Star Wars fans in mind – we want them to be front and center in the run up to Rogue One by imagining and creating their own Rogue Stories.”
All of this is most impressive. The contest officially kicks off on September 30th, so you’ve got some time to brainstorm the perfect Rogue Story idea. You were going to post about Star Wars over the next few months away…now you just have a super valid reason to.
