The new ‘Star Wars’ poster is a genuine work of art

Countdown until Star Wars: The Force Awakens: 60 days!! It’s exactly two months from today, so it’s about time we got a brand new trailer for it. That brand new trailer actually drops tomorrow night during Monday Night Football, and tomorrow suddenly seems so far (far) away. Thankfully, the nice people at Disney and LucasFilm have gone ahead and released the official poster for the movie, and guys, it is epic. We’re going to spend all of Sunday starring at it.

Following the same format as previous Star Wars posters, we’ve got a cluster of action right in the center featuring our main characters. The biggest one? That’s Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who’s associated with the Knights of Ren and The First Order, which are like the new Sith Lords and Galactic Empire. Right next to him, we’ve got what looks like an operational Death Star, but is probably not an operational Death Star. And right next to that, our new favorite Star Wars heroine (even though we haven’t see the movie, but we can assume we’re going to love her), Rey (Daisy Ridley).

Though it kinda looks like she is, Rey is not holding a lightsaber. But Finn (John Boyega) is! Chewbacca’s got what looks like a crossbow, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) has a blaster, and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) has… wait a second. Where is Luke?? The Force Awakens has been completely shrouded in the utmost secrecy, so Luke could literally be anywhere. But he’s not on the poster. Anyone else suddenly really nervous about this omission? Or maybe the Force is just so strong with Luke they couldn’t fit it all on one page?

Enough talk. Time to gaze lovingly at the Force Awakens poster. It also includes appearances by our favorite new droid, BB8, and our favorite new captain, Phasma. The new trailer drops tomorrow during football on ESPN. And if you’re not one to sit through an entire football game, keep up with the Star Wars Twitter so you know exactly when it’s going to happen.

Force Awakens opens on December 18th, 2016, and if you’ve already forgotten, that’s 60 days away.
