New “Star Wars” heroine Kelly Marie Tran just discovered Instagram, and it’s the cutest thing ever
There are many (many, many, many) reasons I’m psyched to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but here’s one that maybe hasn’t crossed your mind recently. Sure, there will be lightsaber battles, and Porgs, and Luke Skywalker will talk, but this is the first Star Wars movie to feature multiple female leads. There’s always been a Princess Leia, and Force Awakens gave us a Rey. And now, we’re getting a Rose, played by newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
(And Laura Dern, if someone would only let me seeVice-Admiral Amilyn Holdo, but now is not the time to get into that.)
Not much is known about Rose, but just like Finn before her, she is kind of a big deal when it comes to The Last Jedi. While introducing her at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this past April, director Rian Johnson quipped, “[She] has the biggest new part in the movie and ironically is played by the smallest actor.”
In the movie, Rose is a mechanic, who gets “pulled a very big way into an adventure in this movie with Finn,” Johnson continued. And that’s all we know about her!
But now Tran is letting us in a little bit more. Did you know she has an Instagram? She does. And it appears she just started using it, maybe at the suggestion of IG-savvy Jon Boyega, and she is sharing the most glorious, fan-worthy, extra adorable things. She’s just like us, freaking out about The Last Jedi.
One of her first posts is a video of her watching the Last Jedi trailer, and she’s so stoked for it she starts screaming into a stuffed Porg, as you do.

There’s also a picture of her hugging all sorts of new Rose merchandise, which must be a really weird/cool feeling to suddenly get delivered a bunch of action figures based on your likeness.

Also if you’re wondering how much Tran loves Star Wars, it appears the answer is “a lot” because, as she writes, she likes going to The Disney Store where “NOBODY KNOWS WHO I AM, I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT!!!! [And go] to the Disney store and trying on Resistance attire.”

And this is just only a taste of the glorious things Tran has recently posted, not including images of John Boyega (everyone loves a picture of John Boyega). Just think of all the wonderful things she can share between now and December 15th, which is 62 days away in case you’re wondering.
