Disney just confirmed that an immersive “Star Wars” hotel is happening — and TBH, it sounds like “Westworld”
The good news is that a Star Wars hotel is officially happening at Walt Disney World. The bad news is that we sill have to wait a while to check in.
During the Parks and Resort panel at Disney’s bi-annual giant D23 convention, it was revealed that the rumored hotel, themed around our favorite space saga, would indeed be coming to Disney World. News of this leaked out earlier this year, when Disney started conducting surveys, asking guests if they would be interested in an “immersive” experience. Because, come on, why just ride Star Tours when you can live like Star Tours?
Unfortunately, details and specifics about the plot are few and far between, but it’s clear that Disney’s really excited abut this. That’s good to hear, because we’re stoked.
"It’s unlike anything that exists today," Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts explained during the panel. "From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits." "This is going to be a truly unbelievable experience. Every window in this place has a view into space. It will stand out amongst all of the resorts around the globe and make an incredible addition to Walt Disney World. This could be the start of something very big."
Sounds cool! But okay, now we need to talk about the “What door?” in the room.
An immersive, all-inclusive, resort-like-getaway that puts you right inside the narrative as if you’re living it yourself SURE SOUNDS A LOT LIKE A CERTAIN HBO SHOW (that was just recently nominated for 22 Emmys, way to go). It’s impossible to talk about this new Star Wars hotel without having Westworld thoughts. Once upon a time, Ford and Arnold *also* dreamed up a completely immersive world, and we know how that worked out for both of them…
Disney is (probably) not going to start building Hosts (but, never say never!) so we probably don’t have to worry about that. Yet. For now, let’s just focus on the fact that this hotel will be ah-mazing and everything we could ever dream — and probably more. Star staving your dollars, because this is one destination you’re definitely going to want to check into.
